there is absolutely no reason my post should have been erased. i am so sorry that it was! as feminists we should know that we make history—we shouldn’t ever erase histories. we shouldn’t try to forget or ignore things that actually happened. we shouldn’t silence other’s experiences and voices. we…
i’m so sorry that Safiya had to take the time to create this… this is a problem. it is not the responsibility of people of color to explain to white people how they impose whiteness, enact privilege and concurrently silence people under the assumption that they have had their racism removed, cause there’s racism in their teeth and someone’s gotta tell people to get it out or they are just gonna continue to embarrass themselves and hurt people along the way. i’m not perfect… i’m a white feminist and i welcome you to check me and engage in discussion if what i say is out of line, but only if that discussion begins with the understanding that white privilege is a fact. one thing that i heard recently at the beginning of a meeting of long-time virginia activists sets the precedent for doing anti-oppression and social justice work. they said, “we want to acknowledge the diversity of this group and continue by saying this is an anti-racist, anti-oppression space… if this space were all-white we would first have to answer the question ‘what have we done wrong?’… walk away and try again in a different way” this person goes on to say, “in this, we also acknowledge that this is a predominantly white space (keyword dominant) so please be conscious and aware of who is speaking, for how long and what voices are not being heard.” social justice and activist spaces must set the example by acknowledging… yes, we are disprivileged… but we also experience privilege in other ways… there are very few people that don’t experience these simultaneously and not understanding what privilege we do have blindsides people into believing that their experience of disprivilege is the same as others’, which is just not true.
this post had to take so much time and energy to create… this doesn’t come from one experience of being silenced or one experience of attempting to have these conversations, it comes from not being heard again and again.
Safiya, go gurl for speaking your mind. But...Lips, I really have

So my comments aren’t going to be as insightful as Safiya’s or borninflames82’s or unheardofsongs’ BUT I have to say...
i added more bold to borninflames82…safiya, i know you don’t have to take the time and energy to react to all of this...
